Tip #1:    My Eyes Are Killing Me

You know when you are on the internet trying to read some interestingly hot item but the text is sooooooo small you can hardly see it.  Well if you have a wheel mouse it's really quick and easy to make the text bigger.  Just follow these steps.

Step 1        Left click anywhere on the web page where there is no link.

Step 2        Hold down the Control key on your keyboard -- Ctrl

Step 3        Roll the mouse wheel back to make the text larger
Roll the mouse wheel forward to make the text smaller

Pretty Easy.  Now I can see what I'm reading.

Tip #2:    Find it Fast

You're on a long web page filled with text, and you don't want to waste time scanning the page to see if your subject is on it?  Use the following technique to find text on a web page fast.

Step 1        Left click anywhere on the top of the web page where there is no link.

Step 2        Hold down the Control key and tap the letter F key

Step 3        In the find box that appears type the keyword or phrase you are
looking for and click the Find or OK button to do a quick search.

Tip #3:    Grabbing A Locked Image from the Web

Lots of web pages are teacher friendly and allow you to Right-Click on an image to COPY it to the computer buffer for later pasting, or Right-Click on an image to SAVE TARGET as a picture file.  But some websites lock their images so that you can't use them.  Well I feel that as long as I'm using them privately and not selling them, I should be able to grab them.  You can too, by following these steps.  You also need an image editor installed on your computer (Windows Paint, Adobe Photoshop Elements, etc).

Step 1        Go the the web page that has your image on it and scroll it up to a
                    visible area on the screen.

Step 2        Tap the PrtScr (Print Screen) key.

Step 3        Open your image editor and PASTE the image.

Step 4        You should have all of the visible page in the editor, now.  Simply
drag around or highlight the image on the screen that you want.

Step 5        COPY the image to the buffer.

Step 6        Select NEW and then PASTE your captured image.

Now you can save the image and use it on a test or some other paper project
you are working on.

Tip #4:    Close Those Windows

Ever been on the web and a bunch of windows open up or you open separate pages in different windows.  These can be a bear to close sometimes, so here's an easy key combination that will speed up the process and close the windows quickly:

Step 1        Hold the Control Key down

Step 2        Tap the letter W key on the keyboard

This should close the windows one at a time for you rather quickly.

Tip #5:    Another Wheel Mouse Trick

Of course you know how to scroll up and down in your internet
browser by using the scroll bar at the right of the window, but
if you have a wheel mouse there's a quicker way.

Step 1        Left click on the window where there is no link.

Step 2        Holding down the Shift key while moving the mouse wheel.

Help:            You can also hold down the Alt key and tap the left and right cursor
keys to effect the same thing.

Tip #6    Collection of Tips To Clean Up Your Computer

Use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to remove all programs from your system that you don't need.

In Accessories " System Tools choose Disk Cleanup and run it on your hard drive (Drive C.) After scanning, click "more options" and select System Restore Cleanup. Then click disk cleanup, selecting all available options.

Empty your recycle bin.

Check your temporary Internet files settings in Internet Explorer Options, each user has a set amount of disk spaced reserved, so consider reducing this amount or deleting user accounts you do not need.

If you have system restore settings, check how much memory is reserved for system restore and reduce that amount if desired.

In Accessories " System Tools choose Defrag to defragment your hard drive.  This will organize your files and speed up your access.
