Short Fiction Collection Volume I
Our Interactive Short Fiction programs have been designed to quickly interest your students in great classics of literature. The students are required to answer questions as they read the story. A preliminary reading and discussion in class or individual reading is helpful before taking on this task. The format of our programs (questions and answers) makes them ideal for either study or testing purposes. Unlike regular paper tests, our programs require an answer for each question before another question is given. If a student answers incorrectly, the correct answer is revealed. Entire test is scored on screen and allows for a print out for teacher and student (a report card). There is an immediacy to reading which is not captured through traditional reading. In addition you also save on paper and other classroom materials. Questions and answers can be printed out by teachers for classroom planning.
In the computer lab they can be great devices for cooperative learning, by grouping students around a machine to incite decision making. They can also be used in a controlled environment as a test of reading knowledge -- individually or in groups. These programs also make great tools when used as part of a Special Education curriculum, a home schooling plan, and ESL programs.
This unusual story by Nathaniel Hawthorne introduces the reader to an isolated family in the mountains who have a visit from a stranger. The outcome is quite unexpected and fitting with the nature of the character. Complete story is available on screen for students to scroll. Short enough for one class period, but Open and Save features are available for those who don't finish. 20 questions with alternate answers. Students type answer and immediate response is given -- correct or incorrect, along with the correct answer. Grade is displayed on screen and printed report available for teacher and student.

World destruction is the theme of this story and the life that struggles to survive even after the big bomb has gone off. If you like the short story called By the Waters of Babylon, by Vincent Benet, you and your classes will enjoy our software guide and test called Interactive By the Waters of Babylon. Students will willingly exhaust their brains trying to answer the thirty questions in this guide. You will need a copy of the story which is available in many short story collections or at your local library. The program checks each answer and gives a grade at the end. There are 39 questions to stimulate interest and the questions do come in sequential order so it is an interesting task that can be finished in a single class period. Just in case, we have a save and open feature for students who can't complete the task in one period. Questions and answers can be printed by the teacher and a grade report is issued at the conclusion of the program.
