This step by step lesson accompanies an on-screen video available from Baggetta_Ware Teacher Tech  www.baggetta.com.  You can view the video first and then use these instructions to practice the task.

            We recommend that you download and install Adobe Reader on your Windows PC before using this lesson.  This is a hand program that is used by many software developers to pass on instructions and program documentation to their customers.  This program is offered free from www.adobe.com.  Just make sure you download and install the correct version (Windows 98, Vista, MAC, ect.).  Check your computer first, you might already have this installed.  Your computer recognizes an Adobe Reader file because it has a .PDF extender.

            As you recall, in Lesson 2 we downloaded a program from the free page at Baggetta_Ware called Group Mixer 2, this is just one of the many programs offered by us.  We offer a different program each month, so if you are using these lessons, just substitute the name of the program when practicing.

            We saved the Group Mixer 2 as a .zip file in the INTERNET DOWNLOAD folder, and then extracted the files we will need to install this program on our computer.  This is what we will deal with in this lesson. 

            As you browse through the files that have been extracted you will notice a READ ME FIRST.txt file.  Often you will find a text file like this in a download or on a CD you have purchased.  Be sure to READ THIS FIRST, because it might contain some important information you need to know before installing and running the program. 

            You will notice that there is a .PDF file (see above) in the list of extracted files in the INTERNET DOWNLOAD folder.  This is the instructions and documentation for the program, so you should read this first, also.  We technical people often just jump into a program with out reading this material, but it is a bad practice we should break.

            Okay.  Here are the instructions for installing Group Mixer 2 (we won’t deal with the operation of the program here, but you can find out this information by reading the .pdf).

Step 1:          Right click the SETUP.EXE file and then Left click the Open option on the pop-out menu.

Step 2:          This will give you an introductory screen to install the program.  Click Next, Run, or Ok 
                       (depending on the OS you are using).

Step 3:          When you get the license screen, you should read the content then
                       Click Accept.  Without accepting you cannot install any program.                         
                       Click Next.

Step 4:          Choose a  directory in which to install the program or just leave the          
                       Default location: C drive (your hard drive) in the Program Files folder, in a 
                       folder called Group Mixer 2.  Click Next.

Step 5:          You’ll see a “get-ready-set-go” screen.  Click next.

            Now you can just watch the installation bar as the program installs on your computer.  When it is finished, close the installation window.

            On your desktop (for this program) you will find a cute little icon.  This is your gateway to running the program.  Sometime program icons will be installed on the START menu, or the PROGRAMS menu, or in special folders on your desktop.

            Right click the icon and then choose Open to get the program running.  With Group Mixer 2  you will have had to create (or use the sample .txt file – see READ ME FIRST), to make the program run.  The sample can be found in the installed program directory C:/Program Files/Group Mixer 2.

            That’s all there is to installing this program.  Some installations are quirkier than this, but basically they all follow the same procedures.
